We are seeking a Senior Thermal Design Engineer to lead thermal strategy, conceptualize design, and perform simulations to address a variety of thermal design challenges in WiTricity’s Wireless EV Charging Solutions. You will develop strategies for optimizing thermal and mechanical components by minimizing mass, cost, and material usage. Your contributions will be towards product development and supporting translation of thermal technologies into designs, specifications, and manufacturing from package to systems.

This position is open to remote within the United States, with preference given to candidates local to the Boston area. Occasional travel to WiTricity’s HQ in Watertown, MA required. Candidates must have relevant experience in the automotive industry.

Responsibilities:
  • End-to-end ownership of the thermal system designs for new and existing products, ensuring the designed parts and system meet the optimized requirements and can successfully scale into mass production.
  • Component and system mechanical design ownership of liquid coolant systems, and air flow systems, converting requirements into design concepts and materializing these concepts into physical, validated, mass-production-ready parts/systems.
  • The role involves design and validation of passive, active-air, and active-liquid cooling solutions for electronic and electromagnetic systems.
  • Develop and execute component and subsystem design validation plans and test methods to validate product adherence to requirements, in collaboration with parallel validation and design engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine requirements and specifications to optimally achieve product performance, schedule, cost, reliability, and quality targets.
  • Design passive and active-air and liquid-cooling solution for high power electronics.
  • Develop analytical and computational models of hydraulic and thermal systems.
  • Heat dissipation component selection (Chiller, CDU, Fan, Pump, Filter, TIMs, etc.)
  • Optimize cooling solutions for all aspects of their performance and reliability.
  • Define and support best practices for how CFD can be used towards electronic thermal management for high-power requirements.
  • Work in multidisciplinary teams and drive product and engineering excellence.
Requirements:
  • BS or MS Degree in Thermal/Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • 7+ years of professional experience in thermal analysis with a demonstrated understanding of fundamentals of fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and thermodynamics.
  • Experience in structural analysis including structural FEA, vibration/dynamic analysis, thermal structural analysis, etc, and the ability to efficiently simplify the analysis approach.
  • Familiarity with design for reliability/FMEA concepts, PCBAs/electrical systems, and firmware/controls
  • Strong expertise with computational modeling and common CFD analysis tools, such as Flotherm, Ansys, Star CCM.
  • Strong grasp of failure analysis methodologies and experience with product reliability and validation procedures.
  • Ability to breakdown complex engineering problems into simple pieces that can be tackled by fundamentals.
  • Automotive industry experience required.
